Shoulder Impingement & Subacromial Decompression

Impingement happens when the rotator cuff tendons get pinched under the bony roof of the shoulder (acromion), causing pain on lifting the arm.

Common signs

  • Pain while lifting the arm to the side or overhead
  • Pain at night
  • Weakness in overhead activities

Treatment

Rest, activity modification, physiotherapy and injections help most patients. If symptoms persist, arthroscopic subacromial decompression creates more space for the tendons.

Recovery

Most patients regain comfortable movement within weeks with a guided exercise programme.
