ACL Reconstruction (Arthroscopic)
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the main ligaments that keeps the knee stable while running, turning and jumping. A torn ACL often causes the knee to "give way" and can damage the meniscus and cartilage over time. At our clinic in Naranpura, Ahmedabad, ACL reconstruction is performed arthroscopically – through small keyhole incisions using a camera.
Signs you may need ACL surgery
- A "pop" in the knee at the time of injury followed by swelling
- Knee giving way while walking, turning or climbing stairs
- Difficulty returning to sports or active work
- ACL tear confirmed on clinical examination and MRI
How the surgery is done
The torn ligament is replaced with a graft (usually taken from your own hamstring or patellar tendon). The graft is fixed in tunnels made in the thigh and shin bones. Any associated meniscus tear is repaired in the same sitting.
Recovery
Most patients start walking with support within a few days. A structured physiotherapy programme restores movement, strength and balance. Return to sports is planned step-by-step over several months based on your progress.
